What is Belotero?

Belotero is a brand family of hyaluronic acid fillers from Merz Aesthetics. It includes products of different consistencies for different areas and purposes.

Products in the Belotero range are made from cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel, and some contain lidocaine. The manufacturer describes a proprietary production technology for this range, intended to help the gel integrate smoothly into the tissue. The products come in different densities for needs ranging from fine, superficial lines to deeper volume loss. Product names and indications can vary from country to country.

Belotero is often mentioned in connection with soft products that can be used in thin-skinned areas. A brand name alone does not determine suitability, however. What matters is that the chosen product fits the treatment area, is authentic and registered in Türkiye, and is placed with a technique based on sound anatomical knowledge. It is not accurate to rank brands against one another in general terms.

Where can Belotero be used?

The Belotero range includes products for fine lines, lips, the under-eye area, nasolabial folds, cheeks and skin quality. Which product is used depends on its approved indication and the doctor’s assessment.

Softer products are designed for fine lines and thin-skinned areas, medium-density products for areas such as the nasolabial folds and lips, and denser products for areas that need volume support, such as the cheeks. The range also includes products aimed at skin hydration and quality. Indications are defined on the product label and can differ between countries, so the current labelling should always be checked.

In anatomically sensitive areas such as under the eyes, technique and a careful suitability assessment are as decisive as product choice. The fact that Belotero has a product designed for an area does not mean that product suits that area in every person. Taking products from other manufacturers into account as well, the doctor decides at an in-person consultation which option is appropriate and explains the reasoning.

What is Belotero treatment like and what happens afterwards?

Treatment is similar to other hyaluronic acid fillers and is carried out with a needle or cannula after assessment. Swelling and bruising may occur in the first days.

Once the area and product have been agreed at consultation, the skin is cleansed, a numbing cream may be applied and the product is placed slowly and in a controlled way at the appropriate depth. The duration depends on the area treated. If several areas are treated, a different product may be chosen for each and the plan built up in stages. A short observation period follows, along with aftercare advice.

Swelling, redness and bruising usually settle within a few days, although they may last a little longer under the eyes. The final result is generally assessed after two to four weeks. How long the effect lasts depends on the product, area, amount and metabolism. Because Belotero products contain hyaluronic acid, they can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. A follow-up appointment allows the result to be reviewed.

What are the risks and limits of Belotero?

The risks are similar to other hyaluronic acid fillers: swelling, bruising, tenderness and, rarely, vascular occlusion or delayed reactions. The brand alone does not determine how safe a treatment is.

Rare but serious risks such as vascular occlusion are closely linked to the anatomy of the area and the injection technique, and they call for extra care in sensitive areas such as under the eyes, the nose and the temples. The doctor’s anatomical knowledge, choice of instrument and layer, slow injection and having hyaluronidase available are all part of safe practice. If you notice an unexpected symptom, contact your doctor without delay.

Belotero does not replace surgery where sagging, under-eye fat bags or excess skin need to be corrected. Treatment is avoided or postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with an active infection or with a known allergy to an ingredient. To confirm authenticity, you can check the box, the batch number and registration details for Türkiye. Sharing details of previous treatments also helps your doctor plan safely.

Frequently asked questions

Is Belotero used under the eyes?

The Belotero range includes soft products designed for thin-skinned areas. Which product suits the under-eye area, and whether tear-trough filler is right for you at all, is assessed at consultation.

How long does Belotero last?

It depends on the product, area, amount and your metabolism. A personal estimate can be given at consultation once the product and area have been decided.

Is Belotero suitable for lip filler?

The Belotero range includes products designed for the lips. Which product suits your lips is decided after assessing their structure and your expectations.

Is Belotero different from other brands?

Each manufacturer offers different production technologies and product ranges. There is no general superiority between them; the doctor chooses according to the area and the properties of the product.

What is Belotero Balance?

Belotero Balance is a medium-density hyaluronic acid filler in the Belotero range, described for moderate lines such as the nasolabial folds. Because of the way it spreads in the tissue, some doctors may also choose Belotero Balance for thin-skinned areas. Its use in any given area depends on the product’s approved indication in that country and on the doctor’s assessment.

What does it mean that Belotero “integrates” into the tissue?

The phrase rests on the manufacturer’s statement that its proprietary production technology lets Belotero gel spread evenly through the tissue. This spreading behaviour can be one reason it is chosen when a smooth transition is wanted in thin-skinned areas. Even so, the risk of lumps, irregularity or a bluish tint depends as much on the right amount and layer as on the product.

Is Belotero used for fine lines around the lips?

Yes, the soft and medium-density products in the Belotero range can be used to soften the fine vertical lines around the lips, often called smoker’s lines. These lines are very superficial, so the product is placed in thin layers and in small amounts. If the lines are linked to skin quality, treatments aimed at skin quality may also be considered alongside Belotero.

Is Belotero Volume used for the cheeks and temples?

Belotero Volume is described as one of the denser products in the range, designed to restore volume, and according to the manufacturer it can be used for volume support in areas such as the cheeks and temples. Here, layer and technique matter as much as product choice; the temple in particular is sensitive because of its blood vessels. Approved uses vary between countries.
