What is Morpheus8 and how does it work?
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency: needles enter the dermis and energy is released from their tips, creating controlled zones of heat in the tissue.
The treatment tip contains a grid of fine needles. When it is placed on the skin, the needles advance to the selected depth and radiofrequency energy is delivered at those points. Most of the skin surface is preserved while fractional, or spaced, zones of heat are created beneath it. Depth and energy can be adjusted according to the area, skin thickness and the concern being treated. The name Morpheus is also used for this product family.
The micro-channels created by the needles and the heat from the radiofrequency together stimulate the tissue's repair process. Increased collagen production and remodelling of the tissue are expected during this process. Change therefore usually develops gradually over weeks and may build up over a course of sessions. The degree of response varies with skin type, age, sun damage and the nature of the concern.
When is Morpheus8 considered, and what does it not do?
It may be considered for texture, acne scarring, the appearance of pores and mild laxity on the face and some body areas; it does not restore volume or correct advanced sagging.
Morpheus8 is usually discussed for rough-looking skin, visible pores, rolling or boxcar acne scars and early laxity of the lower face. Because depth is adjustable, different areas of the face can be treated with different settings, and deeper settings are known to be used in areas such as under the chin. More superficial settings may be preferred where the skin is thinner. The areas and settings are agreed at consultation.
The device does not replace fat or bone support lost with age; fillers or biostimulators may be discussed instead. Expression lines are usually treated with botulinum toxin. It is not intended to achieve what surgery does for significant excess skin or advanced sagging. With deep acne scarring, a combination of different techniques, rather than a single method, is often needed, so the plan is tailored to the scar type and depth.
Who may not be suitable for Morpheus8?
It may not be suitable during pregnancy, with electronic implants such as pacemakers, with active infection or skin disease in the area, or with a marked tendency to scar.
Treatment is usually postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Because radiofrequency is used, pacemakers, implanted defibrillators and metal implants in the area are assessed individually. If there is infected acne, a cold sore, eczema, psoriasis or an open wound in the area, treatment is usually delayed until this has healed. For people prone to cold sores, preventive measures may be discussed. A tendency to keloid or pronounced scarring is also an important consideration.
People with darker skin tones may have a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation, so settings and after-care are planned with particular care. Recent use of certain acne medicines, blood thinners and bleeding disorders may also affect timing. Sharing your full medical history and medication allows suitability to be assessed accurately, and the final decision is made by the physician based on the examination findings.
What happens during treatment and afterwards?
The skin is cleansed, numbing cream is applied and the tip is placed systematically across the planned area; redness and pinpoint marks may follow for a few days.
Numbing cream is applied to the area for a period beforehand, after which the skin is disinfected. Each application may bring a brief prickling and warmth, the intensity of which depends on depth and area. Other comfort measures can be planned by the physician where needed. Single-use needle tips are important for hygiene. The length of the appointment depends on the size of the area being treated.
Afterwards, redness, swelling and small marks matching the needle points may appear and usually settle within a few days. In the first days, follow the physician's advice on make-up, strenuous exercise, saunas and sun exposure. Gentle cleansing, moisturising and sunscreen support recovery. Sessions are commonly spaced several weeks apart. If you are travelling to Istanbul, consider whether a course of sessions fits your plans, as this is discussed at consultation.
What are the possible side effects and risks?
Redness, swelling, pinpoint marks and tenderness are common; infection, pigment change, scarring, prolonged redness and burns are reported rarely.
Common effects are usually short-lived, and some people have dryness or light crusting for a few days. Rarely, infection, cold sore flare-ups, post-inflammatory pigmentation, scarring and surface burns have been reported. With deeper settings, particularly in areas with little fat, tissue changes and temporary nerve irritation are also possible. Choosing the appropriate depth and energy is key to reducing these risks, which is why settings are individualised.
Treatment should therefore take place in a licensed healthcare facility, under the responsibility of a physician who assesses your skin type and facial anatomy. If you notice increasing pain, discharge or colour change after treatment, contact your physician. At a face-to-face consultation in Şişli, Nişantaşı, your skin and expectations are assessed to decide whether Morpheus8 is a sensible option for you, and your questions are answered first.
Frequently asked questions
Are Morpheus and Morpheus8 the same?
The name Morpheus is generally used for the same microneedling radiofrequency product family. The exact device and tip used can be explained at consultation.
How many Morpheus8 sessions are needed?
A short course, several weeks apart, is frequently planned. The number depends on your skin, the concern being treated and how the tissue responds.
What is the recovery like after Morpheus8?
Redness and pinpoint marks usually settle within a few days. Recovery varies with the depth, energy level and your skin type.
Is Morpheus8 suitable for darker skin?
It is known to be used on darker skin, but the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation may be higher. Settings, preparation and after-care are therefore planned carefully by the physician.
How does Morpheus8 compare with Potenza?
Both are microneedling radiofrequency devices from different manufacturers, with different tip and mode options. They cannot be ranked in general terms; the choice is made by the physician according to the indication.
When can I wear make-up after Morpheus8?
After Morpheus8, make-up can usually be worn again once the needle points have closed, for most people within 24 to 48 hours. In the first days, choose simple, non-irritating products and clean brushes, because products applied while the needle channels are open can penetrate more deeply. If redness or crusting persists after Morpheus8, wait longer and follow your physician's advice.
Can Morpheus8 be used for stretch marks on the body?
Yes, Morpheus8 is among the options considered for stretch marks (striae) on areas such as the abdomen, hips and thighs. Stretch marks are not expected to disappear completely; the aim is a gradual change in their texture and surface appearance, usually over several sessions. Newer red or purple stretch marks and older white ones may respond differently, and the plan takes this into account.
I have taken isotretinoin for acne; how long should I wait before Morpheus8?
There is no single agreed waiting period for Morpheus8 after stopping isotretinoin. Traditionally, waiting six months after stopping the medicine has often been advised; more recent views suggest this interval could be shorter for some procedures, but data for microneedling radiofrequency are limited. The timing of Morpheus8 is therefore decided by considering how the skin has recovered and the planned depth.
How long after the last Morpheus8 session are results assessed?
Results of Morpheus8 are usually assessed around three months after the last session. Because collagen remodelling continues after the sessions have ended, changes in skin texture and the appearance of scarring usually begin in the first weeks and can keep developing for several months. Changes seen between Morpheus8 sessions may not reflect the final result, and comparison photographs are planned around this timing.
