How does Red Touch work?
The device emits light at 675 nm; according to the manufacturer this wavelength acts on collagen fibres, creating micro heat zones and stimulating the skin's repair process.
According to the manufacturer, the skin surface is protected by integrated cooling and the heat effect concentrates in the dermis. In theory this stimulates collagen production, but how large the real effect is has not yet been shown sufficiently in independent, large studies.
The wavelength lies in the visible red range and is also absorbed by melanin, so skin tone and tanning matter. A manufacturer describing this wavelength as special does not mean it is better than other devices in the same class.
Which concerns might Red Touch be considered for?
It can be discussed for fine lines, mild texture irregularity and some superficial spots.
In small published studies the 675 nm laser has been investigated for acne scars, melasma and skin renewal. These include limited numbers of patients and the results cannot be regarded as settled. The method is therefore considered alongside, not instead of, options with a stronger evidence base.
It is not expected to be enough alone for marked sagging, deep wrinkles or advanced acne scars. At consultation the cause of the concern is identified and, if needed, you are directed to another method or specialist.
Who may not be suitable, and what are the risks?
Tanning, darker skin types, pregnancy, active infection, photosensitising medicines and isotretinoin use call for caution.
As with other light and laser procedures, skin tone and sun exposure affect the outcome. If there is an active infection, cold sore, open wound or suspicious mole in the area, treatment is postponed or not done. Because adequate safety data are lacking in pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is not recommended.
Redness, mild swelling and tenderness can be expected afterwards. Colour change, crusting or burns have been reported rarely. If a problem persists, contact your doctor.
What do the session plan and expectations look like?
Number and spacing of sessions depend on the goal; the effect is gradual and no specific result is promised.
Several sessions a few weeks apart are usually considered. Change appears over weeks and is subtle. Following sun protection and care advice affects both result and safety.
Because part of the device information comes from the manufacturer, it is reasonable to ask the doctor whether it is supported by independent sources. Doing nothing is also an option.
Frequently asked questions
Is Red Touch a fractional laser?
Application modes may differ by version. You can ask the doctor at consultation which mode would be used.
Does Red Touch require recovery time?
Manufacturers generally describe a short recovery, but it varies with the person and settings. No exact time can be promised.
Is Red Touch suitable for melasma?
Melasma is complex and may worsen with heat. In this condition the choice of method should follow dermatological assessment.
How long do Red Touch results last?
Duration varies between people and maintenance may be needed as ageing continues. No duration can be promised.
