How does Sofwave work?
A cooled applicator touches the skin and delivers ultrasound energy in parallel beams to the middle skin layer at the same time.
According to the manufacturer, SUPERB creates a regular zone of warming across a surface area instead of focusing on one point. The skin surface is protected by cooling. As the warmed tissue repairs itself, collagen and elastin production may be stimulated, so change appears gradually over weeks rather than immediately.
Because it is ultrasound-based, it is often compared with other methods that use sound waves. Micro-focused ultrasound, for example Ultherapy, concentrates energy at specific focal points at greater depth, while Sofwave is described as spreading energy more superficially across a wider area. The right depth varies between people, so the two should be seen as different options rather than one outranking the other.
Who might consider Sofwave?
It can be discussed as an option for mild to moderate skin laxity or fine lines in people who do not want surgery or a long recovery.
The manufacturer reports regulatory clearances for specific indications such as facial lines and the brow and under-chin areas; clearances differ by country and indication, and the situation in Türkiye needs separate confirmation. It is not expected to be enough alone for marked excess skin, advanced sagging or prominent volume loss; fillers, biostimulators or surgery are considered in those cases.
Expectations should stay realistic. Change is usually subtle and gradual, and it does not aim for the result of a surgical facelift. At consultation, skin thickness, fat distribution and previous treatments are reviewed together, and the doctor decides whether the procedure makes sense for you.
Who may not be suitable, and what are the risks?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection or wounds in the area, implanted electronic devices and some implants call for caution; temporary redness and tenderness are common.
Warmth or mild discomfort can be felt during treatment, followed by temporary redness, swelling and tenderness. Bruising, numbness or burns have been reported rarely. A skin condition in the area, an active acne infection, a cold sore or a pacemaker can mean postponing or not doing the procedure. Medicines you take and procedures you have had must be shared at consultation.
If a notable problem develops, such as prolonged pain, blistering or colour change, contact your doctor and do not try to manage it yourself. You are entitled to ask who will perform the procedure, about product authenticity and about documentation.
How does Sofwave differ from Ultherapy and radiofrequency?
All three aim to stimulate collagen through heat, but energy type, depth and delivery differ, and which suits you depends on the individual.
Ultherapy is micro-focused ultrasound and concentrates energy at focal points in deeper layers. Monopolar radiofrequency devices such as Thermage convert electrical energy to heat across a broad tissue volume. Sofwave uses ultrasound but, according to the manufacturer, delivers it in parallel beams in the mid-layer. This difference may influence which method is considered for which concern.
A direct superiority comparison cannot be made with confidence; studies used different groups and different measures. Decisions should rest on examination findings rather than online comparisons.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Sofwave procedure painful?
Discomfort varies between people. Warmth, a slight prickle or pressure may be felt. The doctor explains comfort measures at consultation.
Can I return to normal life after Sofwave?
Most people can resume daily life the same day; temporary redness or tenderness may occur. For your own situation, follow the doctor's advice.
How long does the effect last?
Duration varies between people. Because ageing continues, reassessment may be needed after some time; no guarantee can be given.
Can Sofwave be combined with fillers or botulinum toxin?
In some cases different procedures can be planned at different times within one plan. Order and interval are set by the doctor for each person.
