HArmonyCa:
A Hybrid of Hyaluronic Acid and CaHA

HArmonyCa is a hybrid injectable from Allergan Aesthetics that combines hyaluronic acid (HA) with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in one product.

The HA component provides support at the time of treatment, while the CaHA component aims to stimulate collagen over the following months. It may be planned for the mid and lower face, and suitability is decided at an in-person assessment.

What is HArmonyCa?

HArmonyCa is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel containing calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. It is designed to provide both support and biostimulation.

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule found naturally in the skin that binds water; in fillers it is cross-linked to form a longer-lasting gel. HArmonyCa adds to this gel the same type of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres used in CaHA products such as Radiesse. It also contains lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment. The idea is to bring the properties of two product classes together in a single injection.

Hybrid products sit between HA fillers and biostimulators as a category of their own. That does not make HArmonyCa superior to other products; it simply means it offers a different profile of effects. Its registration and traceability in Türkiye should be confirmed before treatment. Whether it suits you, and in which area, is decided by the physician at an in-person assessment, where alternatives are also discussed.

What does "hybrid" mean in practice?

The HA gel gives visible support straight away, while the CaHA microspheres aim to stimulate collagen over weeks and months. Early and gradual effects are therefore combined in one product.

Most of the change seen immediately after treatment comes from the hyaluronic acid gel. As the gel is slowly broken down, the CaHA microspheres remain in the tissue and may stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen. HArmonyCa may therefore be considered where both immediate support and a longer-term tissue response are wanted within the same plan. The degree of effect depends on your tissue and individual collagen response.

Some practitioners use separate HA and CaHA products in the same session; a hybrid instead delivers both components in a ratio set by the manufacturer. Which approach is chosen depends on the area, the goal and your treatment history, and there is no single right answer. At consultation, what the hybrid could contribute to your particular facial structure, and its limits, are discussed openly before any decision.

Where is it used, and what are its limits?

It is typically considered for support points in the mid-face, cheeks and jawline. It is not designed for the lips or under-eye area and does not replace surgery for advanced sagging.

HArmonyCa may be considered for volume and support loss in the mid-face, flattening of the cheeks and mild laxity in the lower face. Within a liquid facelift plan it may be combined with skin-quality treatments or toxin. Approved areas of use can differ between countries, so where it is used should follow the current product information in Türkiye. Your physician will explain which areas are appropriate in your case.

Because of its CaHA content, it is generally avoided in the lips, the tear troughs and very thin-skinned areas, where other product classes may be discussed. With marked excess skin and advanced sagging, the change achievable with injections is limited. HArmonyCa is not equivalent to a surgical facelift, and framing expectations this way is important for a natural, balanced result. A surgical opinion may be suggested where appropriate.

Who may not be suitable for HArmonyCa?

It is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection in the area or with a known allergy to HA, CaHA or lidocaine. Some medical conditions need individual assessment.

Treatment is not carried out, or is postponed, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with active infection, cold sores or inflammatory skin disease in the area, or with a known allergy to any component or to lidocaine. A tendency to keloid scarring, active autoimmune disease, bleeding disorders and blood thinners are also discussed. This list is not exhaustive; your medical history and current medication are reviewed in detail at consultation.

Areas previously treated with unknown fillers need care because different materials can interact. As the CaHA component may be visible on X-rays and some other imaging, it is advisable to mention the treatment before future scans. HArmonyCa may not be the right option for someone expecting a large immediate increase in volume or a result equivalent to surgery, and in that case alternatives are discussed openly.

What does treatment involve, and what are the risks?

Treatment is usually brief and most people resume normal activities the same day. Swelling, bruising, nodules and, rarely, vascular occlusion are possible; hyaluronidase dissolves only the HA component.

The skin is disinfected and the product is placed with a needle or cannula depending on the area. Avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas, alcohol and pressure on the area for 24 to 48 hours is usually advised. Swelling in the first days settles over time, while the collagen-related change is assessed over weeks and months. A follow-up appointment allows the result to be reviewed and any irregularity to be picked up early.

Common effects are swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising. Nodules and irregularities may occur, and vascular occlusion, though rare, is serious and needs urgent assessment. Hyaluronidase can dissolve the HA component but not the CaHA microspheres, so choice of area and technique are especially important. These risks, and what would happen if a problem arose, are discussed in person before treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How does HArmonyCa differ from Radiesse?

Radiesse contains CaHA microspheres in a cellulose-based gel carrier; HArmonyCa suspends them in a cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel. This gives a different profile of effects rather than a better or worse product, and the choice is made at consultation.

How long does HArmonyCa last?

It depends on the area, the amount used and your metabolism. Both the HA and CaHA components are broken down over time. Your likely duration and review interval are discussed at consultation.

Can HArmonyCa be dissolved?

Hyaluronidase can dissolve the HA component but not the CaHA microspheres, so the product is not considered fully reversible. Treatment is planned with this in mind.

Is HArmonyCa a liquid facelift on its own?

A liquid facelift is a planning approach rather than a single product. HArmonyCa may form part of a plan, but other product classes or toxin may be added, or none, depending on what your face needs.

What is the difference between HArmonyCa and a standard hyaluronic acid filler?

Unlike a standard hyaluronic acid filler, HArmonyCa also contains CaHA microspheres in its gel, aimed at a collagen response. A standard hyaluronic acid filler provides volume through the gel alone and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase; with HArmonyCa the enzyme dissolves only the HA component. Standard HA fillers are therefore generally preferred in thin areas such as the lips and under the eyes.

Can I have HArmonyCa and Botox in the same appointment?

Yes, HArmonyCa and Botox can usually be planned in the same session or a short time apart, because they address different concerns: HArmonyCa provides support, while botulinum toxin reduces muscle activity. Some physicians give the toxin first and reassess the need for filler about two weeks later, once it has taken effect. The order depends on the areas treated and how your face moves.

Can I have HArmonyCa if I’ve had hyaluronic acid filler before?

Previous hyaluronic acid filler does not in itself rule out HArmonyCa, but the area, amount, timing and product name of the earlier filler matter. If noticeable filler remains in the same area, waiting or dissolving it with hyaluronidase may be discussed first. Older treatments of unknown content are assessed more cautiously, as a long-lasting material that enzymes cannot dissolve may have been used.

Will HArmonyCa make my face look puffy?

HArmonyCa generally does not make the face look puffy when used in measured amounts at the right support points; the aim is balanced support. Swelling in the first days settles within one to two weeks for most people. As hyaluronic acid attracts water, the amount of HArmonyCa is planned carefully, and any top-up is discussed only once the result is seen at follow-up.
