What is Rejuran S?
Rejuran S is the polynucleotide injectable in the Rejuran range developed for use in scar areas.
Like the other Rejuran products, Rejuran S contains polynucleotides obtained from purified salmon DNA fragments. It is known to differ in concentration and consistency from the other products in the range; these technical details are checked against the manufacturer's current instructions for use. The product is placed in small amounts beneath and around the scarred area, and the technique is chosen by the physician according to the depth and distribution of the scars.
The aim is to support the appearance of skin texture where depressed scars are present. The product does not change your own DNA and does not remove scars completely. Its legal status in Türkiye, batch number and expiry date are verified before treatment. Scar treatment often requires patience and may involve more than one method, so expectations and a likely number of sessions are discussed realistically from the start.
Which scars is it considered for, and what does it not do?
Rejuran S is mainly considered for depressed (atrophic) scars such as acne scarring; it is not an appropriate option for raised (hypertrophic) scars or keloids.
Rounded, shallow and rolling depressions left by acne are among the scar types for which this product may be considered. The goal is for the scarred area to look more even and for skin quality to be supported. The outcome depends on scar depth, age of the scars, skin type and any other methods used, and change is gradual. Recent scars and long-standing scars may respond differently.
Deep, narrow “ice-pick” scars, scars tethered to deeper tissue and raised scars may not improve with this method alone. For these, subcision, microneedling radiofrequency, laser or chemical approaches may be discussed. The right approach is decided after a detailed assessment of your scar type at the consultation. Rather than a single method, a staged plan is often discussed, with each step spaced appropriately.
Who may not be suitable for Rejuran S?
It is generally not recommended, or is postponed, in cases of fish or salmon allergy, pregnancy, breastfeeding, an active acne flare or a tendency to keloid scarring.
If you have an active acne flare, the acne is usually brought under control first. If you are taking, or have recently stopped, oral acne medicines such as isotretinoin, this is important for timing. Because the product is salmon-derived, a history of fish allergy is specifically asked about. If there is a cold sore or another skin infection in the area, treatment waits until it has healed.
A tendency to keloid or abnormal scarring is assessed with particular care, because injections themselves can carry a risk of new scarring. There is insufficient safety data for pregnancy and breastfeeding, so treatment is deferred. Blood-thinning medication, bleeding disorders and active autoimmune disease also need further assessment. Suitability is decided by the physician at a face-to-face consultation once all of this has been reviewed.
How is it performed, and how many sessions are needed?
After a topical anaesthetic cream, the product is placed into the scar area with a fine needle; scar plans usually involve several sessions and, where appropriate, other methods.
The area is cleansed and a topical anaesthetic cream is applied. The product is placed in small amounts beneath and around the scars with a fine needle. Because scar tissue can be firmer, the sensation of pressure may be more noticeable during treatment. Treatment time depends on the size of the scarred area. Afterwards the area is cleansed and after-care is explained in the context of your acne treatment.
A common plan is several sessions a few weeks apart; for scars, the number of sessions tends to vary more than for skin-quality treatments. Rejuran S may be used at different times within the same plan as microneedling radiofrequency, laser or subcision. The order and intervals are set by the physician. At each follow-up the response of the scars is reviewed in detail and the plan is updated if needed.
What can I expect afterwards, and what are the risks?
Redness, swelling, bruising and small bumps in the scar area can occur; these usually settle within a few days.
Small bumps, tenderness and mild swelling may appear at the injection points and usually settle within a few days. In darker skin types, temporary darkening of the skin can develop after injection. Rarely, an allergic reaction, infection or new scarring may occur. If you notice increasing pain, fever, signs of inflammation or a marked change in skin colour, contact your physician without delay.
You are advised not to wear make-up on the first day, not to rub the area and not to squeeze spots. Avoiding saunas, steam rooms, strenuous exercise and alcohol for a few days, and using sunscreen consistently, are particularly important for reducing the risk of colour change. When to resume your acne treatment and retinoid products is explained individually, along with any other personalised advice.
Frequently asked questions
Will Rejuran S remove my acne scars completely?
No. Rejuran S aims to support the appearance of atrophic scars; it does not remove them completely. Response depends on scar type and depth.
Can Rejuran S be used on keloid scars?
Raised scars and keloids are not among the scar types this product is aimed at. In people prone to keloids, any injection treatment is assessed with particular care.
Can I have treatment while I have active spots?
If there is an active acne flare, treatment is usually postponed until the acne is under control.
Can Rejuran S be combined with other scar treatments?
Different methods can be used at different times within one scar plan. The physician decides which methods are used and in what order.
Can Rejuran S treat red or brown marks left after acne?
Rejuran S is not generally aimed at red or brown marks after acne, because these are usually colour changes rather than depressed (atrophic) scars. Many such marks fade gradually with consistent sun protection and suitable skincare, and treatments for redness or pigmentation can be considered if needed. Rejuran S is mainly considered for scars that leave a dip in the skin.
How long after isotretinoin (Roaccutane, Accutane) should I wait before Rejuran S?
There is no single waiting time after isotretinoin that applies to everyone before Rejuran S; timing depends on when you stopped the medicine, your skin's condition and the procedure planned. Traditionally, a 6–12 month wait was advised before procedures such as laser or dermabrasion; more recent expert guidance suggests it may not be needed for every procedure. So always mention when you stopped isotretinoin.
Can Rejuran S be used on chickenpox or surgical scars?
Depressed chickenpox scars belong to the same atrophic group as acne scars, so they may be assessed for Rejuran S. With surgical scars, the scar type decides: depressed scars may be assessed, while raised, thick or keloid-prone scars are not suitable for Rejuran S. The area, the age of the scar and the product's instructions for use are considered together at the consultation.
When can I tell whether Rejuran S has worked on my acne scars?
The effect of Rejuran S on acne scars is usually judged not after one session but as the course progresses and in the weeks to months after it is completed. Because scar tissue changes slowly, early swelling or bumps should not be mistaken for the result. Photos taken in the same lighting before treatment can be compared at follow-up visits.
